Cupless Bras
Cupless bras (also called open-cup bras) are bras designed with the cup area completely removed. A support band sits under the bust, with straps and underwire framing rather than covering the breasts. The category is exclusively for intimate and bedroom wear. Most of our cupless pieces come from Obsessive, the Polish sexy lingerie brand, and are sold as coordinated sets that include a matching crotchless thong or panty. Browse the catalog below. Underneath the products you'll find guidance on construction, related styles like shelf bras and peek-a-boo bras, sizing notes, and styling.
What cupless bras actually are
No cups. No coverage of the breasts. Just structure underneath.
A cupless bra keeps the underbust band, the shoulder straps, and often the underwire or a decorative frame around the bust. Everything that would normally enclose the breasts is gone. What's left lifts and shapes from below, presenting the bust rather than concealing it.
The category serves one specific use. Lingerie meant to be seen, not worn under clothes. There is no practical scenario where a cupless bra functions as everyday support. The design assumption is that this bra is part of an intimate moment, a photo session, a partner experience, or a deliberate confidence piece.
Across the industry, the terms cupless bra, open-cup bra, and open bra are used interchangeably. Shelf bra sometimes means the same thing in lingerie context, though in mainstream US retail it usually refers to built-in support panels in swimwear and clothing (Lululemon shelf bra, J.Crew shelf bra tank — those are not what we sell). The next section sorts out the related terms.
Cupless bra vs related styles
Four terms describe similar but not identical products. Knowing which is which saves you from buying the wrong silhouette.
Cupless / Open-cup bra
Cups completely absent. Breasts fully exposed. Support comes from underbust band, straps, and sometimes underwire. Most revealing of the group.
Quarter-cup bra
A small cup covers only the lower portion of the breast, up to about nipple level. Nipples and upper breast remain exposed. More framing, less exposure than fully cupless.
Shelf bra (lingerie context)
Effectively identical to a cupless or open-cup bra. The "shelf" refers to the support panel under the breast that lifts and presents. In sportswear and swimwear, "shelf bra" means something completely different: a built-in support liner.
Peek-a-boo bra
A bra with cups that have intentional openings around the nipple area. The cup is present but cut to reveal specific parts. Distinct from cupless, which removes the entire cup.
What's the difference between cupless and shelf bras?
In lingerie context, they're the same product. The bra has no cup. A support band under the bust does the lifting and presenting. Where the terminology gets messy is in mainstream US retail. "Shelf bra" more commonly refers there to a built-in support liner sewn into a tank top, swimsuit, or sports top. Different category entirely. If you're searching for the lingerie style and want to avoid confusion, search "cupless" or "open-cup" instead. Those terms don't have the same overlap with sportswear products.
Lascava's catalog focuses on cupless and open-cup styles. We don't currently stock dedicated quarter-cup or peek-a-boo collections, though some of our pieces use peek-a-boo design elements.
What's in the catalog
The Lascava cupless category has two product groups. Knowing the difference helps you choose what you actually want to buy.

Standalone cupless bras
The bra on its own, sold without matching pieces. Useful if you already own pieces you want to coordinate it with, or if you're building a wardrobe one item at a time. The Obsessive Lovica (lace trim, red) and Miamor Half Bra (underwired lace, black) are typical examples. For other sexy bra styles without the cupless framing, see sexy bras.
Cupless lingerie sets
The majority of our catalog. Each set pairs a cupless bra with a matching crotchless thong or panty, sometimes with extras like garter belts, chokers, or removable straps. The bra is the centerpiece. About 70% of the design effort and visual impact lives in the bra, with the matching bottom completing the coordinated look. Examples include the Obsessive Heavenlly, Lacelove, Roxelia, and Ingridia sets. See the broader range under sexy lingerie sets.
Multi-piece cupless ensembles
Smaller group. 3-piece sets that go beyond bra-and-thong. The Obsessive Lecille adds a separate accessory piece. The Donarella includes a choker. These work as complete intimate-wear outfits rather than coordinated separates. For sets specifically built around the crotchless thong element, see crotchless lingerie.
How to choose a cupless bra
Do cupless bras provide any support?
Yes, but in a limited way. The underbust band sits firmly below the breasts. It lifts and shapes from there, but it doesn't support cup coverage because there's nothing to cover. Underwired cupless styles add structured lift through the underwire frame. Wireless versions rely on band tension and strap geometry alone. Real support, real lift. Just bedroom or intimate context, not daily wear under clothes.
Start with support level. Some cupless bras are underwired, with a structured underbust frame that lifts noticeably. Others are wireless, relying on a snug band and strap tension. Underwired styles work better for fuller busts and create more visible lift. Wireless styles feel softer and look more delicate. Both options exist in our catalog.
Sets vs standalone matters more than people expect. If you want the complete look ready out of the box, a set is the simpler choice. Already have lingerie you want to pair the cupless piece with? A standalone bra gives you more flexibility. Sets are also more economical per piece since they bundle the bottom.
Fabric character changes the mood. Mesh reads modern and minimal. Lace adds romantic texture. Most of our cupless pieces use lace — partly because Obsessive's design language favors it, partly because lace trim works well around an open cup where mesh would feel too plain.
Color sets the tone. Black is the most popular choice across our orders. Red carries an obvious occasion energy. White and ivory work as bridal lingerie. Burgundy and purple appear less often but tend to sell out quickly when they do.
One observation worth sharing. Customers most often write to us about cupless purchases with the same question: am I between sizes? Obsessive's dual-size system (XS/S, S/M, M/L, L/XL) is designed to be forgiving precisely because of this. Our practical recommendation: measure your underbust circumference first and match to the band range. Bust size is the secondary check. The band is what holds the bra in place, so getting the underbust right is the higher-priority fit.
Sizing for Obsessive cupless bras
Obsessive uses a dual-size system rather than single letter sizes. Each piece is labeled with two adjacent traditional sizes (XS/S, S/M, M/L, L/XL) and designed to fit either. This makes Obsessive sizing more forgiving than typical lingerie sizing.
| Obsessive size | US / UK dress size | Bust (inches) | Underbust (inches) | Hips (inches) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XS/S | 6-8 | 31.5-35 | 26.5-29 | 33-37 |
| S/M | 8-10 | 33.5-37 | 27-30.5 | 35.5-39.5 |
| M/L | 10-12 | 35.5-39 | 29-31.5 | 37.5-41.5 |
| L/XL | 12-14 | 37.5-41 | 31-34 | 40-44 |
Cupless bras fit the underbust band, not the bust itself. Measure your underbust circumference first, then check overall body fit using bust and hip ranges.
Our cupless category currently stocks sizes XS/S through L/XL (US 6-14). If you wear US 16 or above, larger Obsessive sizes may be available in some of our other categories like sexy lingerie or lingerie sets.
Each product page lists exact measurements for that specific style. Full international size conversion is on our size guide.
Common mistakes when buying cupless bras
A few patterns we see, especially with first-time buyers:
- Buying for everyday wear. Cupless bras aren't meant for under-clothing use. The structure won't lay flat under a shirt, and the design isn't built for full-day wear.
- Confusing it with quarter-cup or peek-a-boo bras. Each style exposes the breast differently. Read the product description before buying if you have a specific silhouette in mind.
- Ignoring the dual-size system. Obsessive uses overlapping sizes (XS/S, S/M, M/L) rather than single sizes. A US 10 wearer could fit either S/M or M/L depending on body type. Check the size chart per product, especially the underbust measurement.
- Ignoring the set vs standalone distinction. Most of our cupless products are sets. If you only want the bra, check the listing. Buying a set when you wanted just the bra means receiving an unexpected matching thong.
- Expecting under-outfit support. Underwired cupless styles provide lift to the bust, but this lift is for the bedroom visual effect. Different use case entirely from daily support.
Styling cupless bras
Cupless bras live in three contexts.
Solo intimate wear. Most common use. Worn as the only garment, or paired with a robe for entry-and-reveal styling. Often combined with stockings and garter belts for fully assembled lingerie outfits.
With matching set pieces. Sets come pre-coordinated: bra plus crotchless thong, sometimes plus garter or choker. The whole set is the outfit. No additional styling needed beyond optional stockings or jewelry.
Why does the third context exist? Because fashion has moved this direction. Sheer outerwear is now a regular category, and a cupless bra worn under a sheer top or robe creates a deliberately revealing layered look. Best with sheer fabrics that allow the bra's framing structure to show through the outer layer. Not for the office, obviously.
